  17. Well all,
  18.   I'm back from Germany and working away on some programs.  I had a few 
  19. things to say/ask:
  20.  
  21.    a)  WHERE IS EVERYONE?  You're studying too hard!  Take a break!
  22.    b)  Norm:  You keeping an ftp'able archive of the list?  If so, where?
  23.    c)  While I was working in Germany, we all had a discussion about
  24.         who was working on what.  How's it going with everyone's
  25.         projects?
  26.    d) I'll assume almost everyone is using EPP (thanks, Barry!).  That
  27.         being true, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a central FTP
  28.         site for everyone's PMODULES so we could all benefit from each
  29.         other's routines?  (Think about it:  A set of libraries for
  30.         fancy 3d graphics routines, a set for sound, a set for device
  31.         access, text manipulation, windowing/boopsi/intuition, etc.)
  32.   e)  In fact, we should establish a central FTP site for source.  I only
  33.         say this because I have no idea how hard it would be to get an E
  34.         directory under aminet/dev/source.

  36. Where I am:  Well, I'm currently working on SDM.  Now up to 0.3a.
  37.   SDM stands for Sparse Distributed Memory.  basically a holographic
  38.   storage system.  The version I'm working on now will learn to read
  39.   text...anything.  Books, newspapers, term papers, you name it.  I
  40.   have most of the routines either coded or planned, at least as far
  41.   as having it correctly recognize concepts, categories, and predict
  42.   word sequences (I'm using pop science texts, but will move on to fiction
  43.   soon).
  44.     Once I have thatt done, I'll implement the other half of SDM, which
  45.   will add content-addressible associative memory to it.  In other words,
  46.   give it a word or phrase, and it can free-associate in a human manner.
  47.   After that's working, I may just make it talk just to round things out.
  48.   Throw in a few emotions, and you may have an Amiga striking up a conver-
  49.   sation with you in the future (but, that would require voice-recognition,
  50.   and I havent looked at the soource for VCLI all that closely.)  Either
  51.   way, you amy could have feelings, and express them to you in natual
  52.   language (at least, that's whatt I'm hoping.  all this is based on a
  53.   theory of SDM developed by Pennti Kanerva, and was designed as a memory
  54.   system for a fully autonomous rrobot...it was never designed with text
  55.   in mind, although it works just fine with it.  (remind me to slow down
  56.   my key repeat rate.))

  58. So.  That's where my projects are so far.  All the others I listed (except
  59.   the TIERRA port) will be using SDM as the foundation for their functioning.
  60.   I get this thing working, everything else is pretty much downhill.
